Child Associate for Child-Led Play

Entry Level

The Prevention Team of Essex County, in partnership with the Lake Placid Central School District, is seeking a Child Associate to work one consistent day per week (preferably Wednesdays), starting immediately. Hours are 8:00-3:00, following the school calendar.

The Child Associate will work alongside a school mental health professional, under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services. The Child Associate must be able to establish and maintain positive relationships with a variety of children. They will need to communicate with school personnel, maintain documentation of sessions, and participate in weekly supervision meetings.

The Child Associate will provide individual sessions with K-3 students in our playroom using child-led play. Two models are used in the playroom. The Primary Project is an evidence-based early intervention that assists students with mild delays in school adjustment. The Playroom Plus Program serves a wider variety of students.

Minimum Requirements

● Strong interpersonal skills

● Appreciation of children from diverse backgrounds

● Availability to work one consistent day per week 8:00-3:00 (preferably Wednesdays)

● Availability to attend occasional training and meeting days

● Background check and drug test required

Pay

The successful candidate will be an employee of the Prevention Team, placed at Lake Placid Elementary School. Hourly rate starting at $21.08 with a limited amount of paid sick leave.
