Alfred Z. Solomon Masterwork Series
Join us for a rhapsodic evening of art song and opera featuring the 2018 Grand Prize winner of the Kosciuszko Foundation’s Marcella Sembrich International Voice Competition, soprano Alexandra Nowakowski, flutist Edward Wargo, and pianist Michael Clement in a program that revels in the allure of the moon. This opulent performance includes the “Silver Aria” from Douglas Moore’s Ballad of Baby Doe, Dvorak’s beloved “Song to the Moon” from Rusalka, Nanetta’s enchanting call to the fairies from Verdi’s Falstaff, and the renowned “Mad Scene” from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. The program also includes the premiere of a new arrangement of “Moonrise,” the heartbreaking final scene from Richard Wargo’s Chekhov-inspired opera, A Visit to the Country, prepared especially for this performance.
Praised by Opera News for her “impassioned singing,” coloratura soprano Alexandra Nowakowski is a first generation Polish-American who is fluent in Polish. She is a winner of the 2019 Astral National Auditions and has been a member of numerous prestigious young artist programs, including the Washington National Opera Cafritz Young Artist Program, the Wolf Trap Opera Young Artist Program, and the Verbier Festival’s Atelier Lyrique. Nowakowski has also been a master class participant with the Joyce DiDonato Master Class series with Carnegie Hall.
Event will be held under a performance tent on The Sembrich’s beautiful lakeside property. Concertgoers are welcome to bring their own portable folding chairs or use those provided by The Sembrich. Ushers will ensure appropriate social distancing when seating attendees. Masks are required at all times while on The Sembrich property. Health and safety guidelines prescribed by the CDC and the State of New York will be enforced. Failure to comply will result in ejection from the property and forfeiture of admission.
Event will be held rain or shine.
