JOIN US ON AUGUST 6TH AT 10 AM FOR A MUSHROOM TALK AND WALK WITH EXPERT SUSAN HOPKINS. Susan Hopkins learned to identify fungi through her 40-year New Jersey Mycological Association membership. She focuses on identification with a special interest in all of the tooth fungi (fungi with spines as the spore-bearing surface under their cap). Susan is also a “dyer”, having learned to use various wild fungi species to dye wool. Susan lives in the Adirondack Park, continues studying the local fungi flora, and offers lectures, walks, and demonstrations on fungi and mushroom dyeing. We'll take a fun and informative stroll in the woods to explore various types of mushrooms and fungi. During the walk, you'll learn how to identify poisonous and edible species and discover some with medicinal properties. The walk will last around 2-2 ½ hours and will happen rain or shine. The Mushroom Talk and Walk is limited to 15 people. Depending on the weather, we'll meet at Sophie's Lair or Black Kettle Trail. Two days before the event confirmed participants will receive an email with details on the location and what to expect Please bring a bagged lunch to enjoy a meal with Susan Hopkins and ask any additional questions you may have after the walk. The fee for the walk is $15 per person, which covers the cost of the walk.
