Fort Ticonderoga will present an exciting two-day battle reenactment highlighting the epic 1777 Brown’s Raid September 14-15. Now more than 247 years later, guests will witness this real-life dramatic story unfold, as patriot Colonel John Brown leads a surprise attack against British troops garrisoning Fort Ticonderoga!
Highlighted programming throughout the weekend will bring to life the American raid on British-held Ticonderoga with all its exciting twists and turns. On Saturday, visitors will experience the first moments of Colonel Brown’s attack, as they send the surprised British into chaos, reeling back towards their fortifications. On Sunday, watch the crescendo of firepower, as the British and Colonel Brown’s raiders’ trade musket and cannon shots. Don’t miss the battle briefing each day at 12:30 p.m. to get the full backstory behind all the recreated action!
“Colonel Brown’s Raid on British-held Ticonderoga is a true-life tale of heroism,” said Beth L. Hill, Fort Ticonderoga president and CEO. “We are tremendously excited to present this raid’s many tales with action-packed battles and dramatic vignettes across the Ticonderoga landscape and on the waters of Lake Champlain.
In addition to action-packed programming, Saturday vignettes will proudly feature a NEWLY opened space -- the Revolutionary War powder magazine. Visitors will experience the drama as German soldiers inadvertently ignite gunpowder within this magazine as they hastily fire captured cannon on Fort Ticonderoga against Brown’s raiders on Mount Defiance. This powder magazine is open to the public for the first time in nearly 50 years thanks to generous grant support from Americana Corner, the Massachusetts Society of Colonial Wars and the National Society of Colonial Wars.
Admission to this weekend event is included in Fort Ticonderoga general admission and free for Ticonderoga Ambassador Pass holders and Fort Ticonderoga members. General admission tickets are valid for two consecutive days, including the 6-acre corn maze and Mount Defiance experience!
