The premiere al fresco musical experience on Lake George, enjoy an incredible lakeside soirée in true Viennese style while supporting future performance and educational programming at The Sembrich. In the spirit of Beethoven’s profound love of nature, we conclude our 2021 NATURE & MUSIC series with a performance of Beethoven’s delightful outdoor opus, Serenade in D major, Op. 25 for flute, violin and viola presented by musicians from the Lake George Music Festival.
“Written as outdoor music to indulge the Viennese, the airy and charming Serenade features the ‘recreational’ Beethoven at his best,” this according to Ryan Turner from Emmanuel Music in Boston.
The twenty-five-minute work, by turns virtuosic and lighthearted, opens with a march-like Entrata. Horn-like fanfares from the flute follow as the strings join in the dialogue. The work proceeds with a lyric flute solo accompanied by mandolin-like passages in the strings. A set of variations follows, allowing each instrument to shine with a solo turn. “A rustic dance replete with Scotch Snap rhythms completes the playful serenade.”
Event will be held rain or shine.
