Clerk to the Town Justice

The Town of Moriah Court House seeks applications for a Clerk to the Town Justice. The work involves responsibility for performing routine clerical work and / or assists in performing more difficult and responsible clerical work regarding all legal matters pertaining to the office of a town couurt. The Work is primarily of a routine nature and involves the performance of standardized clerical tasks. The work involves public contact with attorneys, the general public and the Office of the District Attorney in connection with courtroom procedures. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Town Justices. The incumbent does related work as required. 

Applicant must be able to sort and file courtroom mail; answer communications and performs a variet of related legal clerical duties; collects fines and inputs fines into computer program; organize bench trials; coordinate jury trials; schedule small claims hearings; provide all case documents to Attorney's; provide reports to board or appointing authority; prepare traffic dispositions and records in Statewide computer program; coordinate all supporting agencies for court (state police, sheriff, public defenders, district attorney, etc); collect fees and accounts for monies received, reconcilesbank accounts, prepares monthly accounting reports; check court reports and records for clerical accurace; prepare orders, summonses, warrants, etc.; keep records of all convictions and issues reports to proper bureaus; assists Town Justice during all court proceedings.

Working knowledge of office technology, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of court procedures and of legal documents; good knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to prepare coorespondence and reports; ability to get along well with others; ability to write legibly; clerical aptitiude, mental alertness, neatness, accuracy; tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demans of the position.

The position is 32 hours per week paid at $20/hour, with full benefits.

Successful applicant must pass a pre-employment physical which includes mandatory drug testing and the position reamins subject to the Town of Moriah's random drug testing policy during the course of employment.
