The Ticonderoga Historical Society will present “The 42nd Regiment of Foot” on Friday, July 27 at 7 p.m. at the Hancock House, 6 Moses Circle, Ticonderoga. The program coincides with the 260th anniversary of the July 1758 Battle of Carillon.
“Most of us are quite familiar with the significance of this regiment to our local history, as well as that of the entire French and Indian War,” said Brian O’Connor, who will present the program. “However, not many are aware of the long and distinguished record of the Black Watch, or the Royal Regiment of Scotland, as they are known today.”
The Black Watch are so named for the dark tartan plaid which forms part of their uniform. Although the regiment has been reorganized several times, they have served in most of Britain’s major conflicts, including the American Revolution, World War Two and Afghanistan.
The program will be presented by Brian O’Connor, former history professor and current Library Director for North Country Community College. O’Connor has undertaken extensive research on the topic and is a frequent speaker on military history topics.
The event is free to the public and refreshments will be served. Additional information is available by calling 518-585-7868 or via e-mail to: tihistory@bridgepoint1.com
