The Silver Bay YMCA Conference and Family Retreat Center, along with community partners at the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, invites the public and members of the press to a Ribbon Cutting and Dedication ceremony for the opening of the new William Boyd Center on Friday, August 3rd, at 3:00 p.m.
The new $13 million, 42,000 square foot William Boyd Center is currently open for dining while the guest floor, featuring twenty-two air-conditioned guest rooms, receives finishing touches to accept guests later this summer. The Center also includes conference space that can accommodate up to 400 people.
The William Boyd Center was made possible by numerous private donations, including a $4 million lead gift from Virginia Rowan and Manning Smith, longtime supporters of Silver Bay YMCA. The building name is in honor of Virginia Rowan Smith’s great-grandfather, William Boyd, who was an early leader of Silver Bay and the YMCA. The remaining funds came through a closed tax-exempt bond offering from the Community Development Corporation of Warren and Washington County and is secured and serviced by Glens Falls National Bank.
The Ribbon Cutting ceremony will include comments from New York State Senator Betty Little; Silver Bay YMCA Board Chair Mike D’Attilio; Silver Bay CEO Steve Tamm; Principle Architect Mike Phinney, and others including benefactor Virginia Rowan Smith.
“With the completion of the William Boyd Center, Silver Bay will be in a stronger position to expand its offerings throughout the year. This, in turn, allows Silver Bay to deepen its ability to have a positive impact on our local community, local economy and local environment. It will enhance our ability to fulfill our mission and our desire to ensure that we make a positive impact on everyone we serve.” said Tamm. The event will be held in the Dining Room of the William Boyd Center. Self-guided facility tours and light refreshments will follow the ceremony.
