Join Museum Staff for a guided tour of Ticonderoga's 19th- and 20th-century history. Step inside the Pavilion, currently closed to the general public, to learn about the men and women who saved Ticonderoga from destruction and made their home on the Shores of Lake Champlain. See how modern science combined with old-fashioned historical research has helped to shed light on the building's secrets. Walk in the footsteps of Robert Todd Lincoln, President William Howard Taft, and hundreds of others who have visited the Pavilion over almost two centuries. Built by William Ferris Pell in the 1820s, when Fort Ticonderoga was preserved, it became a hotel following a family tragedy in 1839 and welcomed guests to the ruins of the old fort for 60 years. It was revived as a Pell family summer residence in 1909 as the fort was restored and remained so through 1987. This is a rare chance to step inside the oldest intact structure remaining on the garrison grounds, off limits for almost 30 years and only just now starting to give up the secrets of its construction and use. Tours take place every Wednesday July through August (July 6, 13, 20, 27, and August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31). Tours begin at 5:00 pm near the Guest Services Desk in the Log House Welcome Center. Allow approximately 1.5 hours for this tour. Space is limited to 20 participants per tour, advanced reservations are recommended or tickets, as available, can be purchased on the day of the tour at the Guest Services Desk in the Log House Welcome Center. Price is $35 per person. Extended periods of walking, climbing stairs and passing through narrow spaces is required on this tour and it is not handicap accessible or appropriate for those who have difficulty walking. All sales are final, no exchanges or refunds. Tour will proceed rain or shine. *If you are interested in combining this tour with the same-day "Sunset Cruise" tour, a $10 discount will be applied.
