The Ticonderoga Historical Society invites the public to a free discussion and movie night on Friday April 15 at 7 p.m. at the Hancock House. The Oscar-winning 1952 classic “The Quiet Man” will be the featured presentation. Starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara and directed by John Ford, the movie is the sentimental tale of a retired American boxer who returns to the land of his birth and falls in love.
The movie is the first in a series of three Irish-themed movies to be shown at the Historical Society. In addition to “The Quiet Man,” planned movies will include the story of Ireland’s fight for independence, “Michael Collins,” on May 20 and the charming and mystical story of “The Secret of Roan Inish.” on July 8.
“The Irish-themed movies tie into our 2016 exhibit on the Adirondack Irish influence on Ireland’s quest for freedom,” noted Bill Dolback, President of the Historical Society. “We’ve worked hard to find a great selection of varied and highly regarded films. These offer something for everyone and we hope to see many of our friends and neighbors at these showings.”
All of the movie nights are free and refreshments will be available for a modest price.
