Susan Weinrich of the New York Council on Nonprofits (NYCON) addresses topics on the legal, accountability, and governance responsibilities of nonprofits and the impact of the Non-Profit Revitalization Act (NPRA), which enacted significant changes to the not-for-profit corporation law in New York State. The NPRA requires a new approach to charities regulation with specific rules governing bylaws, conflicts of interest, compensation, and whistleblower protection - most of which affect chartered organizations as well as those incorporated through the Department of State. This workshop addresses how to implement these changes and how to meet the requirements of NYS Grants Gateway in order to be eligible to apply for grant funding in New York. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to share ideas with their peers and discuss best practices in nonprofit management and governance.
